Why?  Just because.

Bad Luck

They say that “trouble comes in threes”, I hope for our sake ‘they’ are wrong. About a month and a half ago our 50″ DLP started getting dead pixels/mirrors. What started out as one or two quickly became 150 and growing! This picture doesn’t do it’s justice

Thankfully our TV was under warranty and surprisingly Best Buy followed through. Our DLP was replaced with a brand new 46″ LED with 120Hz and a 4million:1 contrast ratio! It was grand, it was glorious, it’s already dead within 1week of bringing it home!!!  On the positive side, I now know what it would be like to watch TV on a 46″ screen using 256 colors, who needs 4 million when you can go retro mode…..

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2

Looks like I might have to get me a next-gen gaming system….

EDIT:  Looks like the video is down….  Link on GameTrailers.com – http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-the-force/101181

Obligatory question, why does Darth Vader look like a wimp compared to his “apprentice”?

Doing the Wicket ‘thang

Wicket in Action Lately I’ve been playing around with Wicket for work.  It’s a very interesting framework that, from my experience at least, you will either love immediately or scratch your head for a time as you unlearn Struts or another framework.

We don’t need no stink’n JSPs!
It seems that with Wicket the days of having to write Java in JSPs are gone, in fact Wicket doesn’t use JSPs, it uses good ol’ fashion HTML files.  This is very nice and allows you to really separate the design of a page from the functionality.  The only downside with how Wicket uses the HTML markup is if you change the structure of the markup, which you will do when developing, you’ll have to reorder your components in code and recompile.  If you make use of Wicket’s markup, which you will, the number of times you have to recompile goes down drastically.

JavaOne Sessions

Some of the JavaOne sessions have been posted online, looking forward to them!

WARNING!  Continue reading only if you’re interest in the abstract description of the sessions.  These are just some of the sessions that caught my eye.  There’s a lot to review since we’re finally moving from Java 1.4 to Java 1.6.

To JavaOne I Go

Looks like I’ll be going to JavaOne this year in San Francisco!  I’m pretty excited about going to this conference for a couple of reasons.  First and foremost, I’ve never been to California.  Secondly I’ve never been to a development based conference either.  I’ve had my share of conferences during my stent at Final Support but none that I was “excited” to attend.  See you in Cisco!

A Father's Prayer

Lord grant me the strength and knowledge to do your will.  Help guide me to be the husband, father, and Christian you want me to be.  Grant me the patience of Job and the courage to do what is right.  Grant me the wisdom to see past my own understanding and to rely on you.

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.  - Psalm 94:18-19

Lord I cry out, help me  I cannot do this on my own!  It is only through your love and grace can I do all things.

To Google Docs I Go

Been a long time coming but I finally decided to migrate all my documents over to Google Docs.  I’ve been using Google Docs for years just never switched everything over.  The only negative thing I’ve noticed is there seems to be a bug or something funky with the way documents are presented when marked ‘Hidden’.  Still playing with it…
