Flock

I just downloaded Flock, a browser based off of the Mozilla engine. At first glance it runs just like FireFox but with a pretty GUI however there are a few things that make it stand out. The first thing that I noticed is that you can directly synchronize your favorites with del.icio.us and it has an integrated blog-it functionality. I still perfer FireFox but it’s a nice browser to play around with. Check it out just to see what they offer. For the most part you can probably find a FireFox plugin to do most of what Flock is offering. Here’s a snippet from their home page:

What’s the idea behind Flock? We believe that it should be easy for everyone to contribute to and participate on the web. To that end, we’ve started with integrating tools that make it easier to blog, publish your photos and share and discover things that are interesting to you.

So far they have a nice well rounded blogging tool that can integrate with some of the more popular blogging systems, Blogger, TypePad, WordPress, etc. I haven’t used it yet but I’ll most likely end up giving it a try. Flock also has integrated Flickr to do photo blogging. Aside from blogging they have integrated RSS feeds, searchable history which is pretty cool, and tags. Tags seem to have become more popular these days having been integrated into Flickr, blogs, email (GMail’s Labels), and now in Flock’s case, bookmarks. Essentially you add a tag to a bookmark and can search/view all your bookmarks based off of a tag.

As I mentioned earlier it’s a nice browser that feels and looks a lot like FireFox. I won’t be switching over to Flock for daily use but I will be watching to see what all they offer. At the very least they should turn some of their features into extensions for FireFox.
